Installation planning

Confirm the real operating envelope before delivery.

Site preparation is not limited to finding floor space for the machine. Product flow, access, conveyor interfaces, services, cleaning conditions, safe working space and the route from unloading point to final position all affect whether commissioning can start as planned.

AreaInformation to confirmWhy it matters
Delivery routeDoor widths, thresholds, stairs, lifts, floor loading restrictions and handling equipment.Prevents the machine or associated conveyors reaching site but not the production area.
Line layoutMachine orientation, conveyor direction, upstream discharge, downstream accumulation and operator side.Protects access to controls, reel changes, cleaning points and changeover adjustments.
UtilitiesMachine-specific electrical, compressed-air, extraction, network or other service requirements.Services must be confirmed from the final machine documentation rather than assumed from another installation.
Product presentationHow containers arrive, spacing, fill state, cap or pump orientation and whether they queue under back pressure. The labeller cannot correct every upstream spacing or stability problem at the point of application.
EnvironmentTemperature, moisture, washdown practice, dust, vapour, lighting and cleaning chemicals. These conditions can affect labels, sensors, adhesion, electrical selection and maintenance access.

Layout and access checks

Use the final general-arrangement drawing or verified machine dimensions to mark the equipment footprint and service zones. Leave usable access for label-roll changes, web threading, sensor adjustment, guide changes, fault investigation and normal cleaning. Where a coder, inspection camera, reject device or conveyor transfer is included, show each item on the same layout rather than treating it as an afterthought.

Before delivery

  • Confirm the unloading point and safe movement route.
  • Complete the site-specific risk assessment and agree guarding interfaces.
  • Provide the verified utilities at the specified locations.
  • Confirm conveyor height, direction, line speed control and product transfer details.
  • Prepare representative production containers and labels for commissioning.
  • Nominate operators, maintenance contacts and the person authorised to accept the work.

Do not assume

Do not infer electrical supply, air demand or floor loading from a visually similar machine. Use the final project documentation. Do not rely on empty bottles when the filled container behaves differently. Do not position the machine so closely to a wall or guard that reels and web paths cannot be reached safely.

General machinery guidance does not replace a competent site-specific assessment. The employer remains responsible for providing suitable equipment, information, instruction and training for its use.

Integration handover pack

Give the commissioning team the latest line layout, upstream and downstream operating sequence, product and label schedule, controls responsibility, network or data requirements, permit arrangements and the planned production window. When several contractors are involved, identify who owns each interface and who can authorise changes.

Continue with the conveyor integration guide, then use the commissioning checklist and operator handover guide.

Check the installation area against the chosen machine.

Send a line sketch, site photographs, access constraints and the equipment immediately before and after the labeller.

Review site preparation
Site responsibilities

Mark the machine scope, site scope and guarding boundaries on the line layout.

Before delivery, identify who provides power, air, conveyors, supports, guarding extensions, safety interfaces, network or data links, extraction, product accumulation and any modification to existing equipment.

Physical boundary

Show access routes, operator positions, roll-change space, maintenance clearance and interfaces with existing guards or barriers.

Control boundary

Define stop, emergency-stop, reset, ready, fault and speed signals between the labeller and surrounding machinery.

Evidence boundary

List which drawings, declarations, risk information, test records and training outputs are supplied by each party.

Use the compliance and documentation guide with the existing site-preparation checklist.

Agree interfaces before equipment reaches site.

Send the current line layout, utilities, guard arrangement and site standards with the project brief.
